I had a lovely, if talkative, older gentleman sitting next to me on the flight from Chicago to London. He was very excited to hear that I was a librarian...he being a paper salesman. The excitement? He wanted to talk about the evils of ebooks and the delight of good old-fashioned books. He thought he had an ally in his love of print...until I told him about the 32 iPads in the library. Scandal! He continued to talk, on and on, and my vanity fair sat in my lap taunting me. He asked what percent of reading I did on the iPad and I told him it was about fifty-fifty. He wanted to know the last three titles of print and I told him: The Paris Wife, Paris in Love and A Year In Provence. He had read two of them and we had a lovely, if too long, chat about Hemingway. Then he asked about my last three ebooks. I had been plotting a way out of the convo for the last ten minutes...When I answered the Fifty Shades trilogy he got very quiet and asked for another glass of wine, stat. Perfect. I opened my vanity fair and got to Kristen Stewart.
