Today Darby and I took the train to Monaco while Kevin was working. It is about an hour and 15 minutes and the view is breathtaking.
Upon arrival we were hit with our first fat drops of rain. Instead of walking up to the palais, we hopped the city bus. I believe our driver won the grand prix of 1972, the way he jammed that bus around those tiny roads. I had my eyes squeezed shut for a majority of the quick trip up.
Here is the palais, with a guard out in front. We hopped the thirty minute walking tour while everyone else was outside watching the changing of the guard. Those garimaldis know how to live. The damask wallpaper was to die for. Each room matched the furniture and I love me some matchy matchy. Would have loved to photo document, however no photography was allowed. The view is amazing and you can tell this is where lifestyles of the rich and famous happens. The boats in the harbor are ridiculous and my gear head daughter almost freaked at the amount of ferraris that we saw. Whoa!
Our next stop was an adorable creperie right in the mountain. Crepe with goat cheese and jamon. Winner.
Off for a quick walk thru the city. Amazing cathedral, which happens to be the burial place of Princess Grace. Funny that she had ten times the flowers on her cript compared to all the princes buried there. They do love all thing Grace...still.
The oceanique created by a Jacques Cousteau loving prince was trés maginifiqué! I saw fish that I had no idea existed.
On the walk back to the train, Darby and I declared this the best balcony we have seen in France...so far.
And farewell to Monaco.
The train station looks spotless and probably smells of bougainvillea.
