Food, glorious food!

Here are a few pictures of our favorite food experiences. All delicious, some divine, a few sublime.

Artichoke and prosciutto pizza. Roasted morels and gnocchi in a creamy truffle sauce. Both at the charming restaurant, L'Arione , in San Remo, Italy.

Another delicious pizza. This time, mushrooms and prosciutto. In Cannes.

Our local market in Cannes.

Latte, fresh pressed orange juice, and tatin. (Which is the traditional French breakfast of a half a baguette, butter and jam.) At our favorite cafe in Cannes. My favorite breakfast of the trip.

Escargot in Chamonix.

Macaroons in Chamonix.

Tartuflete, French onion soup, and blueberry tarte in a small restaurant in the main square of Chamonix. Amazing lunch.

Beoef Bourgignon and moutarde de Dijon. (That pot is coming home with me in my suitcase!)

Roasted veggie bagel, with frites and remoulade sauce at Le Cafe Des InitiƩs in Paris. Delightful.

And, now for Darby's top food experiences.

Nutella crepe on the beach in Cannes.

Gnocchi with basil.

Pschitt! Yes, that is really the name of a brand of sprite-type (the French call it lemonade) drink here.

Ice cream in Cannes.

Beignets in Cannes.

Chocolate monton in Chamonix.

Pan chocolat. Everyday. At least once.

Chicken flavored lays, with thyme. NOT. Disgusting. She fed them to the swans at Versailles.

Chocolat tarte with vanilla sauce in Paris.

And, finally, Kevin's favorite foods.

Everybody's happy.

Signs that you are NOT in Kansas anymore

One of the things that has had us all cracking up while we've been here is the signage. Since we stepped off the plane, we've been running into signs and giving them the Lynch interpretation. I think we're correct. Maybe not?

Only dapper ladies and gentlemen may pee here.

Exit with force.

Clutch bag and child and haul ass.

Do not even think about bringing your sour face in here.

While riding the walkway, look happy clutching an odd dog-shaped empty white space. And, don't kick or you'll get x'ed.

Do not walk your prancing puppy jauntily through here!

Do not use your camera or you will see stars.
Do not attempt to touch another person on the boob or your hand will be severed.
Do not shout in Egyptian garb or you will be speared in the headdress.

This is one of our faves- but alas we have no picture of it. It is: Keep your adorable cell phone with a very short antenna on sleep.

Touch this door and you will be forced into a very painful backbend.

I think we've been pretty accurate.

Service, with a smile

Wandering around the city today, trying to avoid the rain, and lo and behold...we found the Mecca of shoes.

I know, I got goosebumps, too. The displays were tres chic. It looked like shoes going to a galactic heaven.

So, while I was trying to take a picture of the front window, a couple walked up. They jiggled the handle, which was locked. The security guard came over to the door, opened it a crack, held up his hand to tell them to wait, then locked the door.

What ran thru my head was either a) a VIP is is in there or b) those people just got dissed. So, I walked around to the side window to see what was up. I didn't see Madonna, Victoria Beckham (I had my fingers crossed) or the French call girl from my previous post.

Then I remembered something I read on the service at Christian Louboutin. If there isn't a free salesperson, they won't let you in. Nice. They don't want you to be in the store without one person devoted to your needs.

I guess if you're going to spend upwards of $1,000.00 on a pair of shoes, you deserve your own person.

Waiting. For shoes and your own sales girl.

The reward.

I guess I'll be waiting for my shoes and my person till my next trip. Sigh.

Saint Michael's

When Kevin and I were on our honeymoon we hit Germany, Austria and Italy. That's a lot of churches. And, I'm sure most of you know, we're not the most religious of people. Needless to say, we saw a lot of churches and took a ton of beautiful pictures of ceilings, windows, flying buttresses, and such.

When we got home and looked at them all we couldn't remember which church was which, so we just told everyone, "oh, that was St. Michael's." Ever since then we've called each church that we see on vacay St. Michael's.

Here are our French versions of St. Michael's.

St. Michael's of Cannes.

St. Michael's of Monaco. Also known as the Chapel of Monaco. It's where Prince Albert got married recently.

Taken from the steps of St. Michael's of the mountain. AKA: The church in Chamonix. (I erased the pic of the church-oops.)

St. Michael's of Beaune. Aka: the Chapel of St. Anne.

St. Michael's of Volnay. Aka: the chapel of burgundy wine.

All three pics are of St. Michael's of Paris. Part 1. Really it's Saint Chapelle. It has been my favorite church that we've seen. Small, with beautiful windows. It was built in only eight years.

St. Michael's of Paris, part 2. Aka: Norte Dame. Wasn't impressed. At all.

St. Michael's of Montmartre. Aka: Sacre Couer. Beautiful.

St. Michael's of Versailles. Aka: The chapel in the palais at Versailles.

That's enough St. Michael's for everyone, especially the Lynches. We probably don't have to go to church for ten years now.
